JAKARTA. The date for the second Jakarta Marathon has been set, with tens of thousands of participants expected to enliven the country’s biggest run.

Deputy Tourism and Creative Economy Minister and Jakarta Marathon chairman Sapta Nirwandar said that the organizer aimed to attract 15,000 runners this year, up from 10,000 last year, for the second Jakarta Marathon, which is set to be held on Oct. 26, starting from the National Monument (Monas).

“When we target 15,000 participants, around 50,000 people might show up on the day. It will not only be good for tourism in the capital but also for the economy. Hotels, restaurants, the transportation sector and shopping malls will benefit from the event,” he said during the prelaunch of the Jakarta Marathon 2014 recently.

The run will be divided into several categories, namely full marathon (42.195K), half-marathon (21K), 10K and maratoonz (children’s sprint).
