Tourism sector reaps profit through exhibitions


JAKARTA. Tourism industries are actively conducting promotions ahead of holiday season at the end of the year.

In order to attract more travellers, Garuda Indonesia holds the second Garuda Indonesia Travel exhibition on 7 October-9 October 2016 in 18 cities, including Jakarta, Bandung, Medan, Lampung, Palembang, Semarang, Solo, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Lombok, Kupang, Balikpapan, Makassar, Manado, Ambon, Timika, and Jayapura.

President Director of Garuda Indonesia M. Arif Wibowo said that Garuda targets to attract 80,000 visitors and to have a worth of IDR225 billion of transactions through the exhibitions. “This (the exhibition) is our strategy in maximizing profits during the peak season”, Arif said.

Arif claimed that Garuda succeeded to gain an IDR179 billion of sales and attract 69,000 visitors during the first Garuda Indonesia Travel exhibition this year.

A number of travel bureaus will use this exhibition to promote their services. “We offer cheaper price and longer period of travel promotion until October 2017”, said Chiuef Marketing Officer of Panorama Tours Fenny Maria.

According to Fenny, the most favorite overseas travel destinations for travellers are Jaoan, Hongkong, South Korea, and Netherlands, while Bali, Lombok, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Semarang are the most favorite domestic travel destinations.

Feeny expects that Panorama may obtain doubled transaction compared to the similar exhibition in the beginning of January. However, Fenny refused to specify the amount of transaction.

Based on Kontan record, Panorama’s parent PT Panorama Sentrawisata TBK targets to increase its income by 40% to IDR2,69 trillion compared to 2015.
Meanwhile, Marketing & Communications Manager of Dwidayatour Yanty Wijaya said that recently local customers prefer to travel to overseas travel destinations, such as Japan, South Korea, and Hongkong, rather than domestic destinations. Dwidaya targets to book IDR30 billion of income through the exhibition.
