From HALAL CERTIFICATE, JAKARTA - Following a wave of controversy, the Indonesian government has decided to postpone the implementation of mandatory halal certification for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) until 2026. The requirement was initially set to take effect in October 2024.
This decision was made after President Joko Widodo held a limited meeting on the enforcement of halal certification obligations with several ministers. Airlangga Hartarto, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, explained that according to regulations, the obligation for halal certification would begin on October 17, 2024. The meeting discussed a target of certifying 10 million MSMEs.
