ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE - JAKARTA. Domestic telecommunication operators are starting to compete to utilize artificial intelligence (AI). In fact, artificial intelligence is not new to these operators.

PT XL Axiata Tbk (EXCL), for example, has been planning the use of AI since three years ago or around 2021. However, it is only in the last two years that EXCL has started using AI to operate its network. 

XL Axiata's President Director Dian Siswarini stated that there are at least three projects that EXCL is working on in utilizing AI. Namely, the use for operating the network, as a contact service, and providing services to customers. 

"We have implemented AI in network operations to achieve zero-touch point operation. This means as little human intervention as possible in network operations," she said when met on Tuesday (5/3).

Dian said that for now, the cost savings from the implementation of AI are not yet visible because EXCL is still in the early stages. During this development phase, EXCL still has to make a substantial investment.

She did not specify how much investment budget EXCL needed. However, EXCL needs investment to build human resources (HR) that can use and mitigate the risks of this artificial intelligence.

Secondly, EXCL also needs to invest in information technology (IT) systems. Lastly, investment for digitization. All these plans have been included in the capital expenditure (capex) budget of IDR 8 trillion in 2024. 

"In the future, its economic value will be high. Then in terms of efficiency, it can reach 40% to 50%," explained Dian.

PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (TLKM) has also utilized this artificial intelligence technology through its subsidiaries. One of them, PT Telekomunikasi Selular or Telkomsel to serve consumers. 

Muhamad Fajrin Rasyid, Director of Digital Business Telkom Indonesia, believes that the implementation of this artificial intelligence can be one of the solutions and effective for increasing efficiency.

"TLKM also offers AI big data business to customers, one of which is data solutions based on artificial intelligence," explained the man who also serves as the President Commissioner of MDI Ventures. 

Fajrin said that in the future, TLKM will look for new business opportunities by carrying out vertical expansion. Starting from the Internet of Things (IoT) business, Cloud, applications, systems to customer information.  

Not to be outdone, PT Indosat Tbk (ISAT) and NVIDIA have agreed to shape the technology landscape and push Indonesia to develop AI on a global scale. 

ISAT, through its subsidiary, Lintasarta, will launch a full-stack AI platform from NVIDIA for businesses in Indonesia with a high-density data center connected to the public internet with speeds up to 400 Gbps. 

In the future, the AI Cloud service owned by Indosat and Lintasarta, supported by NVIDIA, will develop a new generation of sustainable, hyper-connected data centers equipped with artificial intelligence

 

 

Indosat's President Director Vikram Sinha stated that there will be many uses of AI that will be presented by Indosat in the third quarter of 2024 and beyond.
