INVESTMENT - JAKARTA. The Kenyan government and its delegation visited PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO) on September 12-13, 2023.
The delegation from Kenya was led by the Kenyan Minister of Energy & Petroleum, Davis Chirchir, along with the Managing Director & CEO of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC), Paul Ngungi, the Chairman of Guma Africa, Jayesh Saini, and several other representatives from Kenya.
This visit is a response to Indonesia's presence in August 2023. At that time, President Joko Widodo led a delegation that included the leaders of PGEO and PT Pertamina (Persero).
The President Director of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, Julfi Hadi, explained that during this visit, the Kenyan delegation and PGEO discussed further plans for geothermal development cooperation that could benefit both countries.
Julfi said this reciprocal visit is a positive signal for the synergy of both parties. After the agreement made during the visit to Kenya, this meeting is a good thing.
“This shows the seriousness of both parties to synergize in developing the potential of geothermal energy as a clean energy source that is a global need," said Julfi in a press release, Thursday (14/9).
To follow up on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) government to government (G2G) that has been agreed upon by Indonesia and Kenya during the visit last August, this visit was marked by the signing of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) between the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) and PGEO.
This is to further study the possibility of cooperation in the development of geothermal potential in Kenya and Indonesia.
The signing of this NDA was carried out by the President Director of PGE Julfi Hadi and the Managing Director & CEO of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) Paul Ngungi.
The signing of this agreement was witnessed directly by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, on Wednesday (13/9) at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
According to Julfi, this cooperation with Kenya is an initial step for PGEO to become a world-class green energy company.
During the visit to Kenya, this red-plate issuer signed an agreement with Africa Geothermal International Limited (AGIL) to develop the Longonot Concession in Kenya, which has a development potential of up to 500 megawatts (MW). As many as 140 MW are ready to be exploited.
Regarding the progress of cooperation with AGIL, Julfi said, currently both parties are sharing data for the next 3 months. "Of course, there are many positive things for both countries in developing geothermal energy," concluded Julfi.
