Jakarta's free museum entry for batik wearers

JAKARTA. A number of museums managed by the Jakarta administration will allow free entry for visitors wearing batik on Jakarta's 486th birthday, which falls on June 22.

"There will be no need to show identity cards. Visitors will only have to wear batik to enter the museums for free," Jakarta Cultural and Tourism Agency head Arie Budhiman said on Sunday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

The museums include the Jakarta History Museum--also known as the Fatahillah Museum; the Wayang Museum; the Fine Art and Ceramic Museum in Old Town, West Jakarta; the Maritime Museum in the old Sunda Kelapa harbor area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta; the Joang 45 Museum in Menteng, Central Jakarta; the Textile Museum in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta; the MH Thamrin Museum in Senen, Central Jakarta, and the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta.

Celebrations for Jakarta's 486th anniversary, which will run from June 2 to July 3, will include a range of entertaining events, including the Jakarta Great Sale, the Jakarta Fair, Car Free Night, the Abang None beauty pageant, the Jakarta 10K run and the World Golf Championship.
