CAR SALES - JAKARTA. National car manufacturers are increasingly diligent in exporting to various countries. Referring to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), the export of completely built-up (CBU) cars was recorded at 468,595 units from January to November 2023.
This figure grew by 10.62% year on year (yoy) compared to the same period last year, which was 423,606 units.
The President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), Nandi Julyanto, said that amidst the global economic conditions still shrouded in uncertainty, the export performance of the automotive industry is one of the strong pillars that can support Indonesia's trade balance.
Toyota has also achieved a brilliant export performance. From 1987 to the running year of 2023, vehicles of the Toyota brand from Indonesia have been exported more than 2.5 million units to nearly 100 countries around the world.
TMMIN has not yet announced the export sales results until November 2023, while as of October 2023, Toyota has exported 245,000 car units from Indonesia. This number increased by 2.4% yoy from the same period the previous year, which was 239,000 units.
"Raize, Veloz, and Fortuner are the three largest export contributor models from Toyota Indonesia," Nandi told KONTAN on Thursday (14/12).
Toyota has also expanded by starting to export electrification vehicles in 2023, namely the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid and Yaris Cross Hybrid. Both of these models use batteries that are assembled locally.
The trend of exporting Honda cars made in Indonesia throughout 2023 is also positive. Honda recorded a growth in car exports up to 180% by November 2023.
"We have started exporting new models, such as the Honda WR-V at the beginning of this year," said Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director of PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM), Yusak Billy to KONTAN on Thursday (14/12).
In general, the Honda BR-V is the model that HPM exported the most from January to November 2023, with more than 16,000 units. One of the main destination countries for Indonesian Honda car exports is the Philippines.
HPM has been shipping the Honda Brio to the Philippines since 2019. Meanwhile, the Honda BR-V model started being sold to the country at the beginning of 2022.
