JAKARTA. Incumbent National Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief Lt. Gen. Marciano Norman commented that his possible successor, Sutiyoso, is the right choice for the leadership, saying that he will help assist in the strengthening of the institution.
Marciano said that under Sutiyoso's leadership of BIN, the institution is expected to focus on utilizing its material and human resources to the maximum, as well as improving coordination with its international counterparts in dealing with global threats, such as radicalism.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has nominated Sutiyoso as the new BIN director to replace Marciano and submitted his name to the House of Representatives for political endorsement.
“I think he is a suitable figure for the job. He is someone who can work dynamically and help support the government’s aims and performance as optimally as possible. The strengthening of BIN’s resources and coordination with our counterparts is what is needed for the next BIN administration and I have no doubt it can be achieved under Sutiyoso,” Marciano told reporters at the House of Representatives complex in Jakarta on Monday.
Referring to the plan for a BIN supervisory committee, he said that the committee’s work will be accepted positively at BIN and hopes that the institution can operate freely within the confines of the law. (Dylan Amirio)
