JAKARTA. The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) deployed six helicopters to evacuate the victims of Sukhoi Superjet 100. The evacuation has been difficult because of the location’s steep slopes.

The Russian Superjet went missing on Wednesday and its wreckage was found on Thursday morning near Mt. Salak, Bogor.

“There are two helicopters from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta, two from Atang Sanjaya Airbase in Bogor and two from Sentul Airbase in Bogor – six in total,” said Basarnas chief Vice Marshal Daryatmo said Friday.

Daryatmo said the wreckage was found on a steep cliff, hindering the evacuation process. The rescue team will work using either ropes or helipads as soon as possible, if the weather allows.

“They’re already on the move, about 600 meters below the location. It’s really steep. The cliff is an 85-degree slope, but the helipads are almost ready,” said Daryatmo. (The Jakarta Post)
