JAKARTA. Indonesia will deport five Chinese undocumented migrant workers found in Banjar regency, South Kalimantan, an official said on Monday

The five workers were arrested during Manpower Minister Hanif Dakhiri’s inspection of PT Merge Mining Industry’s open pit coal mining company, which recently started operations, in Sungai Pinang district on Saturday.

Banjarmasin immigration office supervision section head Mulyadi said the five workers were still detained in his office. “The company is still progressing the deportation procedure,” he said in Martapura as quoted by Antara news agency.

Banjar Regent Sultan Khairul Saleh said he supported the measure against undocumented foreign workers in his region, saying that their existence in the company had long been to his knowledge.

“We have also deported some of them [in the past],” he said.

However, the regent said he hoped the case would not discourage investment, which had grown in the regency.
