JAKARTA. The Bogor regency administration is targeting the dismantling of 400 illegal villas in Puncak resort as part of efforts to create a water catchment area to prevent flooding in Jakarta.

"Last year, 231 villas were removed. We plan to dismantle another 400 villas this year," Bogor Regent Rachmat Yasin said on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.

The regency administration would begin dismantling the 400 villas in February after the 2014 regency budget was approved, he said.

The villas would be dismantled in stages until the end of 2014, he said.

The demolition would free up land to be turned into an agro-tourism area, where a variety of trees would be planted and a water catchment area would be developed to prevent water in Puncak from flowing directly into the Ciliwung River.

In 2013, the Jakarta administration provided Rp 2.1 billion in aid to Bogor regency to finance the demolition.

"The amount [of aid] will be doubled this year," he added.
