INDONESIA - JAKARTA. Stanford University is set to build a research center in Indonesia new capital city known as the Nusantara Capital City (IKN).
The Head of IKN Authority, Bambang Susantono, said that Stanford has already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and submitted a letter of interest (LoI) since last September to build a research center in IKN.
"So this is actually a continuation of a process that has been going on for quite some time between IKN and Stanford University," said Bambang in a Joint Work Meeting with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Monday (18/3).
According to Bambang, in the future, it is not impossible for Stanford University to not only build a research center but also to establish a campus in IKN.
"The current process is to establish a research center as the initial form of a campus that may be developed in the next 2-3 years," explained Bambang.

The construction of the research center will be a collaboration with Stanford University alumni. The IKN Authority has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability on November 15, 2023, US time.
The MoU was signed by Bambang Susantono, Arun Majumdar, and Anindya Bakrie. President Joko Widodo, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, and several businessmen who are Stanford alumni witnessed the signing of the MoU.
