JAKARTA. Indonesia needs an investment of at least Rp 278 trillion in infrastructure to support faster Internet connectivity in the country, deputy minister of the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas), Lukita Dinarsyah Tuwo, said on Wednesday.
“The amount of money would be used to finance six priority programs within the period of 2014-2019,” he added.
Lukita was optimistic that private parties would financially support the government’s projects, as the state had a limited budget for developing the information and technology sector, according to Antara news agency.
He added that faster Internet connectivity would enhance Indonesia’s quality of life and eventually have a positive impact on the nation’s economy.
“According to a study, every 10 percent growth in Internet users increases economic growth by 1.23 to 1.38 percent. If we can have faster Internet connectivity, it can be one of the ways to increase productivity,” Lukita said.
