Operator will increase warehouse rental cost

Jakarta. Starting Sunday (2/10) the operator of cargo area at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta Tbk (JASS) will raise the rental rate of the airport’s warehouse by 25%, due to the rise in the warehouse’s operational cost.

“The operational cost has increased by 30% to 40%”, said Yoyo Priyowiwoho, Head of Corporate Secretary and Legal Affairs of PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta Tbk to KONTAN, Thursday (29/9).

Under the new price scheme, the rental tariffs for export cargo and import cargo will increase from IDR930 per kilogram (kg) to IDR1,165 per kg and from IDR1,250 per kg to IDR1,570 per kg, respectively. Meanwhile, the tariff for handling rush also increases from IDR1650 per kg to IDR2,065 per kg.

The management of PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta Tbk claims that the existing regulation allows the warehouse operator to increase rental rate in every two years.

Jasa Angkasa also claims that the operator has not yet increased the tariff since 2014. Where as the operator has to spend more operational costs due to the increases in electricity tariff and minimum wages within the last two years.

In a written statement, Deputy Chairman for Air Transportation Affairs at of the Association of Indonesia Logistics and Forwarding Indonesia (ALFI) Arman Yahya said that the operator has unilaterally increased the rental cost at the very high rate.

Arman added that the price rise will create a new burden for tenants, on the grounds that the price rise was announced unexpectedly, while they still include the previous rental rate under their business estimation for a certain period.

Meanhwile, Vice President for Marketing Affairs of JNE Eri Palgunadi said that the rental rate is a component of delivery cost, which will be burdened by consumers.
