Malang 'collective graft' suspects sent to Surabaya by train

GRAFT CASE - JAKARTA. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) shared on Tuesday a photo of 12 disgraced members of the Malang Legislative Council being cuffed on a train on their way to Surabaya, East Java, where they are slated to stand trial for corruption.

“The suspects were sent to Surabaya by train last night and are currently being detained at the Medaeng penitentiary and Surabaya prison,” KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said on Tuesday.

The 12 suspects are Diana Yanti, Sugiarto, Afdhal Fauza, Hadi Susanto, RIbut Harianto, Indra Tjahyono, Imam Ghozali, Mohammad Fadli, Bambang Triyoso, Asia Iriani and Een Ambarsari.

They are part of 41 of 45 Malang city councillors suspected of being involved in a bribery case related to the deliberation of the city’s 2015 budget.

The case has drawn public attention mainly because of the large number of people involved in the case known as korupsi berjama’ah (collective corruption).
