JAKARTA. The Jakarta government has rebutted a rumor that its administration was planning to build a private luxury cemetery, similar to the San Diego Hills luxury graveyard in Karawang, West Java.
“The cemetery complex that we are going to build will only have parks and jogging track. The facilities are not as extensive as those in San Diego,” said the head of Jakarta’s park and cemeteries office Ratna Dyah Kurniati as quoted by tempo.co.
According to Ratna, the Jakarta administration has prepared 65 hectares of land in Tegal Alur to build the cemetery, and is providing Rp 4 billion (US$272,000) to develop five hectares of it this year.
The Jakarta City Council (DPRD) previously proposed that the Jakarta government build a cemetery especially for middle to high income families, as such a facility is not available in the capital and San Diego Hills is a long way away.
