AVIATION INDUSTRY - JAKARTA. Indonesia AirAsia is preparing to launch a new international route connecting Bali, Indonesia with Cairns, Australia.

“We are thrilled to open this new route, as Cairns offers so much to our millions of guests from Bali. We are also confident that this new route will create greater opportunities for collaboration and strengthen relations between the two countries,” said Veranita Yosephine, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, on Thursday (6/6).

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency, the number of tourists visiting Bali in March 2024 was dominated by tourists from Australia. The proportion of Australian tourists in Bali reached 24.28%, amounting to 113,949 visits.

Meanwhile, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that the number of Indonesian tourist visits to Australia was 164.9 thousand, ranking among the top 10 source countries according to data up to June 2023. 

She added that this third international route in 2024 could open possibilities for residents of Cairns and surrounding cities such as Mackay and Townsville to fly not only to Bali but also to major hubs in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Flight tickets from Denpasar to Cairns have been available for booking since today, Thursday, June 6, 2024. Meanwhile, the first flight will begin operations on August 14, 2024, with a frequency of three flights per week, every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

“Indonesia AirAsia continues to urge customers who will travel to fulfill travel requirements following the latest regulations set by the government,” she concluded.
