NUSA DUA. Thousands of students from Badung regency's primary, junior high and senior high schools were deployed on Saturday to welcome President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and other luminaries arriving for the Asia-Pacific Cooperation (APEC), which is being held in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali.
The students, equipped with flags and banners, were deployed three hours before Yudhoyono was slated to arrive at around 4:p.m.
"We can deal with the heat and the scorching sun to welcome the President," said Bayu, a student from SMP 4 junior high school.
One of the school's teachers, Nyoman Darmayati, said the school had received instruction from the Badung education agency to deploy its students on Saturday and Sunday to the sidewalks of the streets heading to the entrance of the Nusa Dua complex where the summit is taking place,
"As long as the students have no objections, I don't see the instructions as burdensome," said Darmayanti.
