10 die in Fokker crash: Air Force

JAKARTA. The last surviving crewmember of the Fokker 27, First Lt. Paulus, died on Thursday evening, along with six other crewmembers and three civilians living in the Rajawali housing complex near Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base after the aircraft crashed into the complex on Thursday afternoon.

Indonesia Air Force spokesman Col. Agung Sasongkojati said that the civilian casualties included Air Force member Maj. Johannes’ son and nephew, Brian, 6, and Naflin, 2, and Johannes’ maid.

Johannes’ wife, Martina, was in a critical condition, Agung told a press conference at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base. Johannes’ house was one of the eight houses in the complex that caught on fire after the plane crashed into them.

“The aircraft was broken into two parts,” he said.

According to Air Force data, onboard casualties included pilot Maj. Hery Setiawan, First Lt. Syahroni, Capt. Agus S W, Sgt. Maj. Sihmulato, Chief. Sgt. Wahyudi and First Sgt. Purwo.

The chief spokesman for the Indonesian Air Force, Commodore Azman Yunus, said the ill-fated Fokker F27 was on a routine training mission at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base before it crashed.

The aircraft made normal contact with the air base’s control tower.
