FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT - HANOI. Vietnam received $19.1 billion in foreign direct investments (FDI) during 2018, up 9.1 percent from a year earlier, the Ministry of Planning and Investment said on Wednesday.

However, FDI pledges — which indicate the size of future FDI disbursements — dropped 1.2 percent in the year to $35.46 billion, the ministry said in a statement. Of the pledges, 46.7 percent are to be invested in manufacturing and processing, while 18.6 percent would go to real estate, the ministry said.

Japan was the top source of FDI pledges in the period, followed by South Korea and Singapore.
