WASHINGTON - Kimberly Cheatle, the Director of the United States Secret Service, has resigned following sharp criticism of the agency's failure to prevent an assassination attempt that injured former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally, the White House announced on Tuesday.
The Secret Service, responsible for the protection of the current and former U.S. presidents, faced a crisis after an armed man shot at Trump from a rooftop overlooking a public meeting in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
