INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS - JAKARTA. The central government will postpone two out of three infrastructure projects passing along the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, namely the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway and the light rail transit (LRT) projects, owing to traffic congestion caused by the construction.
Construction of the Jakarta-Cikampek II elevated toll road, meanwhile, is still ongoing with a targeted completion date of June 2019, during the Idul Fitri holiday.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said on Tuesday that the decision was made to alleviate severe traffic congestion at several points along the 73-kilometer toll road, which is operated by PT Jasa Marga, such as the 11 km and 17 km points.
“For example, I’ve asked the KCIC [PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China] not to carry out [the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway] construction here [on the toll road] for the time being, but [do other parts] somewhere else. While for the LRT, I’ve asked to postpone their work at the 14 km point for several months,” he said.
Jasa Marga president director Desi Arryani suggested that road users not enter the toll road at night as the toll operator was speeding up the Jakarta-Cikampek II elevated project.
“From 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. please don’t use the toll road because that’s when construction is happening,” she said.
