JAKARTA. Japanese car maker Toyota Astra Motor's president director, Hiroyuki Fukui, has said that his company plans to boost cooperation with the Indonesian government, citing the country's bright outlook in terms of economic growth.

He said Indonesia was not only a production base for Toyota, but also an export base to its global market.

With its sense of optimism, the firm has established a new plant in Karawang, West Java, to increase its annual production capacity from 130,000 vehicles to 250,000 vehicles.

"We believe that Indonesia has a great opportunity to become one of Asia Pacific's leading automotive producers," Fukui told The Jakarta Post on Thursday on the sidelines of the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

In addition, Toyota Astra Motor vice president director Suparno Djasmin said that 90 percent of Toyota cars sold in the country was locally manufactured with around 60 to 85 percent locally sourced contents for their spare parts.

During the IIMS, Southeast Asia's largest motor show, Djasmin said Toyota was displaying 22 of cars, including its latest crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV), the Toyota RAV4.
