ANNUAL TAX RETURN - JAKARTA. The Directorate General of Taxes noted that 6.99 million taxpayers had reported annual tax return (SPT) until this morning, Monday (18/3). About 188,000 of them are corporate taxpayers.

Director of Counseling, Service and Public Relations of the Directorate General of Taxes Hestu Yoga Saksama said the number had increased by 15.7% compared to the same period last year.

He claimed that this increase was the result of various efforts by the Directorate General of Taxes to increase annual SPT reporting. One such attempt is sending emails that advise taxpayers to report SPT before March 16.

"You could say that the e-mails we sent encouraged taxpayers to send SPTs earlier," Hestu told Kontan.co.id on Monday (3/18).

Although it has increased, Hestu acknowledged that this achievement had not reached half of the target of this year's tax return reporting. The Directorate General of Tax sets a goal of 15.5 million taxpayers reporting annual tax return. This figure is equivalent to 85% of taxpayers who are required to report it (18.3 million taxpayers).

Hestu estimates that most taxpayers will submit their annual tax return before the deadline expires. Therefore the tax office will maintain services until the end of March, including direct guidance to offices, as well as opening services in malls and public places.

As many as 4,700 tax volunteers throughout Indonesia also train and guide taxpayers to report annual tax return through e-filing.
