JAKARTA. Telecommunications giant PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) officially launched on Wednesday its remittance service, Delima, for Indonesian migrant workers in Japan.

The launch was marked by the signing of a partnership agreement between Finnet Indonesia, a Telkom subsidiary, with Japan’s Kyodai Remittance Unidos. Finnet president director Otong Iip said that with the partnership, Indonesian migrant workers living in Japan would be able to send their money home through Kyodai and the money could be withdrawn in any bank in Indonesia.

“Delima offers an inexpensive and simple way to remit money,” he said.

There are currently around 40,000 Indonesians living in Japan, with total remittances sent home amounting to US$177 million last year.

The total remittance money from Japan was the seventh-largest after those from Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.

Telkom’s enterprise and business services director Muhammad Awaluddin said previously that Telkom planned to also launch its remittance business in Saudi Arabia, Timor Leste and the US by second quarter next year.
