Tax office to launch integrated card prototype

JAKARTA. The Directorate General of Taxation will launch a prototype smart card for tax identification numbers (NPWPs) that will be integrated with other identity cards as part of its effort to improve the taxpayer database.

The tax office has partnered with state-owned Bank Mandiri for the NPWP smart card, called “One Indonesia Card” ( Kartin1 ), which will include taxpayer numbers.

“We will launch the prototype on Friday,” said the tax office’s director for information and communication technology transformation, Iwan Djuniardi, after a press conference on Wednesday.

The tax office plans to officially launch the smart card in July and expects more banks and other institutions, such as the Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) and the Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan), to join the system.

The NPWP smart card will include various identity numbers, such as those of national ID cards, driver's licenses and credit cards. However, banks should apply for a permit from Bank Indonesia for the NPWP smart card to include credit card numbers.

The tax office will ensure that each taxpayer obtains one NPWP smart card, which has a concept similar to the e-ID card. The office aims for it to eventually become the national identity card. (Grace D. Amianti)
