TANGERANG. The Tangerang Police announced the arrest of the Tangerang municipal water company’s director Ahmad Marju Kodri in connection to allegations of budget misappropriation.

Tangerang detective chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Sutarmo said Ahmad was detained after hours of questioning on Thursday.

“We have convincing leads and evidence that support the accusation that he played a significant role in the embezzlement,” he said on Friday.

Sutarmo said suspicions were raised when Ahmad was asked to sponsor a local soccer league, which he did — to the tune of Rp 500 million (US$43,029).

The Finance and Development Comptroller discovered that Ahmad had disbursed the money without prior consultation and, therefore, he was deemed to have misappropriated the money.

If proven guilty, Ahmad faces a maximum 20 years in prison.(Multa Fidrus/The Jakarta Post)
