Sylviana answers police summons in graft probe

JAKARTA. Jakarta deputy gubernatorial candidate Sylviana Murni answered a police summons on Friday for questioning in relation to a corruption case centering on a social aid program.

The running mate of Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono arrived at the National Police's anticorruption department, which is currently located in the Ombudsman building in Rasuna Said, South Jakarta,  about an hour before her scheduled questioning session at 9 a.m.

"Nothing is special. As citizens, we should meet [a summons]," Sylviana said, refusing to comment further on the case.

The National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) issued the summons on Wednesday.

The letter stated that the former Jakarta governor’s assistant for culture and tourism would be questioned in her capacity as a witness in a social aid corruption case pertaining to the Jakarta Scout Movement in 2014 and 2015.

National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said Sylviana would be questioned because she was believed to have information about the case.

Sylviana was earlier reported over her alleged involvement in a corruption case centering on the construction of Al Fauz Mosque, which was developed during Sylviana’s tenure as Central Jakarta mayor.

Democratic Party politician Roy Suryo voiced his support for Sylviana, saying that such cases were initiated by people with political interests in the election.

Roy added that he hoped the election was won fair and square. (Callistasia Anggun Wijaya)
