JAKARTA. Frozen beef, imported by the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) from Australia, has begun to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, on Tuesday.

“The cargo was sent to our cold storage,” said Bulog chairman Sutarto Alimoeso on Tuesday.

He said three shipments of frozen beef arrived on Tuesday via two Singapore Airlines flights and one Garuda Indonesia. Each cargo contained around 4 tons of frozen beef.

“Every day there will be several deliveries, depending on cargo space availability. But in total, 800 tons of frozen beef will be delivered from Australia via air transportation,” said Sutarto.

Bulog was assigned to import 3,000 tons of frozen beef to stabilize the prices of beef. Around 2,200 tons of beef will be shipped and 800 tons by air.

Sutarto said as the frozen beef had arrived the agency would commence market operations as of Wednesday. The beef would be priced around Rp 85,000 (US$8.47) per kilogram, depending on the cut and kind of meat. (apt/ebf)
