JAKARTA. The Surakarta (Solo) chapter of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is aiming to secure at least 76 percent of the total vote in the regency for Surakarta’s former mayor and presidential candidate, Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, in the July 9 election. Jokowi is still highly popular in Surakarta.
Current Surakarta Mayor FX Hadi Rudyatmo, who is also head of Surakarta branch for the PDI-P, said Jokowi could win as much as 89.9 percent of the vote there if the party put a solid campaign team in place.
“We could at least earn 76 percent. If we garner less than that total, I am willing to step down from my position [as head of the PDI-P’s Surakarta branch],” Hadi said.
Meanwhile, Boyolali Regent Seno Samudra, deputy head of the PDI-P’s Boyolali branch, said Jokowi could win 70 percent of the total vote in Boyolali, Central Java.
