GENERAL ELECTION – JAKARTA. Senior Economist at DBS Bank, Radhika Rao, said that Singaporean investors are currently observing the course of the democratic party in Indonesia. Understandably, Singapore is the highest investing country in Indonesia.

“The majority of investors in Singapore are very interested to know what the presidential candidates are discussing. Which candidate supports economic growth. Because the 2024 presidential election will bring about a change in leadership that has been led by Jokowi for a decade,” Radhika said in a media briefing, Wednesday (7/2).

In addition, investors also tend to observe which candidate wants to spend more money on campaigns, and which cabinet wants to make changes.

However, Radhika conveyed that Singaporean investors generally will observe the results of the presidential election, but do not expect there will be major changes. According to her, investors want to see how the presidential candidates carry out fiscal consolidation, downstream policies, to electric car policies.

“Then whether they will focus on opening investments, building electric cars, and so on,” she added.

Furthermore, Radhika said that Indonesia is one of the countries that provides high interest and dividends to investors. In this case, many passive investors from Singapore buy bonds from Indonesia.

"The interest is there because Indonesia's position is one of the countries that provide high yielders in this ecosystem. Not many countries buy good bond returns. So Indonesia really stands out,” she added.
