MILITARY - JAKARTA. JAKARTA. The Italian government has officially pulled the emergency brake on its military relations with Israel. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the suspension of the automatic renewal of the five-year defense agreement between the two countries. This decision marks a strategic move by Italy in response to the escalating situation in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

"Given the current situation we are experiencing, we have decided to suspend the automatic renewal of the defense agreement with Israel," said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the Vinitaly event in Verona, Italy. Meloni's statement was posted on her official account on X on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Indonesian time.
