JAKARTA. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Zahedy Saleh says there are only enough fossil fuel oil reserves in Indonesia to last for the next 23 years.
A more aggressive use of these resources could deplete them faster, Darwin said Wednesday. He added that Indonesia had enough natural gas to last only for the next 63 years, and coal reserves sufficient for 77 more years. “It's time we made efforts to reduce our dependence on non-renewable resources or fossil-fuel-based energy such as oil and coal,” he added.
Darwin said the remaining fossil fuels should be used efficiently. “Efficiency is necessary to produce more energy.” he added.
“People have to change their lifestyles from using energy intensively to using energy efficiently.” (The Jakarta Post)
