COVID-19 - JAKARTA. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ordered the Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin to closely monitor the development of Covid-19, which is said to be increasing.

The President conveyed this after reviewing the construction of the Integrated Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta phase 2A at the MRT Monas Station, Jakarta, on Friday, December 15, 2023.

“I have ordered the Minister of Health to follow and observe the development in detail. Until now, the situation from the Minister of Health is still good,” said the President.

According to the President, although the situation related to Covid-19 is still good, the government will continue to monitor its development.

“Yes, until now it is still being followed and observed continuously,” he added.

For information, based on the statement from the Ministry of Health, the Covid-19 situation in Indonesia shows an increasing trend of cases since week 41 or the period of October 8-14, 2023. However, this increase in case trends is not followed by an increase in hospitalizations and deaths.

The current Covid-19 cases are dominated by the EG.5 subvariant. The EG.5 subvariant is a derivative of the omicron variant and falls into the category of variants of interest (VOI) or variants that have genetic mutations that are predicted to affect the clinical characteristics of the virus.
