JAKARTA. Female officers at Bekasi Police applauded the new policy of National Police Chief Gen. Sutarman that allowed them to wear hijabs while on duty.
“The regulation is an answer to my constant prayer,” head of the Operational and Education division at Bekasi precinct Second Insp. Evi Fatna as quoted by Antara news agency on Wednesday.
She said the majority of policewomen in the precinct were Muslims who had been longing to wear hijabs at work.
Meanwhile, Bekasi police chief Sr. Comr. Priyo Widiyanto said he was still waiting for the details of the regulation related to the wearing of the hijab, including the color and its fashion style. The regulation issued on Tuesday revoked a 2005 decree by the National Police chief that ordered all members of the corps to wear only official uniform items and specifically prohibited female officers from wearing the hijab.
