MUDIK LEBARAN - JAKARTA. The National Police are ready to deploy 170,000 personnel to secure homebound travel during the upcoming Idul Fitri holiday season.

Mobile Brigade (Brimob) members in Central Java and West Java may be deployed to strengthen security if needed.

More people are expected to travel home on the trans-Java toll roads spanning from Jakarta to Surabaya, in East Java, which will be ready before Idul Fitri, according to the police.

To anticipate any traffic disruptions in the holiday season, the police’s traffic corps observed toll road construction in Central Java over two days. They also monitored the readiness of police personnel in areas along the homebound travel route.

“People will travel in great numbers to their hometowns via the trans-Java toll roads,” Traffic Corps chief Insp.Gen. Royke Lumowa said.

Royke said the government had accelerated the construction of four sections of trans-Java toll roads, which connected Pemalang – Batang, Batang – Semarang, Salatiga – Kartasura and Kartasura –Kertosono.

He said the traffic corps was striving to put an end to the usual heavy traffic at the East Brebes toll road exit gate over Idul Fitri.

State toll road operator Jasamarga Semarang-Batang technical director Abdul Rokhim said the Semarang-Batang toll road would be ready for use 10 days before Idul Fitri. (Suherdjoko)
