CORPORATE ACTION - JAKARTA. PT Philip Morris Indonesia (PMID), the majority shareholder of PT HM Sampoerna Tbk (HMSP, member of Kompas100 index), exports the first 9 million cigarettes of the Marlboro and L&M brands to the Japanese duty-free market.
PMID was trusted and appointed by Philip Morris International (PMI) to export to the Japanese duty-free market which had previously been filled with similar products produced by Philip Morris Serbia.
PMID President Director Ahmad Mashuri said exports to Japan were a trigger for PMID to continue to improve product quality to meet global standards and meet the tastes of adult smokers in various countries.
"Currently, there are several duty-free cigarette products in Asia that have been produced by PMID, including Marlboro and L & M," Ahmad Mashuri said in a press statement on Thursday (3/21).
PMID also plans to make a fourth shipment for the South Korean duty-free market at the end of March 2019 with two 40 feet containers. The total shipment to South Korea reaches around 60 million cigarettes.
Besides Japan and South Korea, there are 43 other export destinations. Including East Timor, Brunei, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Laos, Macau, Nepal, India, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland.
The Ministry of Industry noted exports of cigarettes and cigars in 2018 reached US$ 931.6 million or around Rp. 13.2 trillion. This value increased by 2.98% from the previous year's export realization of US$ 904 million.
