JAKARTA. State oil and gas company Pertamina says it will provide around a 10-15 percent additional fuel supply during Ramadhan to anticipate the increased use of fuel in the fasting month.
“Pertamina routinely records that ahead of Ramadhan, there are usually increases in fuel consumption. The demand in both fuel and liquefied natural gas [LPG] will usually grow by between 10 to 15 percent,” Pertamina corporate communications vice president Wianda A. Pusponegoro said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta on Tuesday.
She said that in a normal situation, the consumption of Premium reached 75,000 liters per day and 35,000 liters per day for diesel. Meanwhile, the consumption of LPG usually reached 19,000 metric tons per day.
To anticipate growing fuel demand, Wianda said Pertamina had formulated a number of efforts to secure both fuel and LPG supplies so there would be no distribution problems during the fasting month.
She said Pertamina had also prepared gas filling stations (SPBUs) and fuel trucks that would be ready to maintain fuel distribution.
With the measures, she added, Pertamina would be ready to supply fuel and LPG to consumers at any time.
“We will have Pertamina fuel terminals that will operate for 24 hours. In principle, we want fuel stocks and supplies to remain available so that consumers can still have available fuel supplies during Ramadhan and Idul Fitri,” said Wianda.
Pertamina would also dispatch task forces to monitor fuel stocks and supplies starting from 10 days before Idul Fitri and seven days after, she added. (ebf)
