JAKARTA. Nahdlatul Ulama, the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia, has expressed its support for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle’s (PDI-P) presidential hopeful, Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
On Monday, Jokowi visited NU’s head office on Jl. Kramat Raya in Central Jakarta and met with NU figures including Muhyidin Arubusman, an NU leader.
Both denied the closed-door meeting was related to Jokowi’s bid, but when asked whether or not NU would support Jokowi, Muhyidin said: “God willing.”
Muhyidin said they discussed NU’s national meeting in Cilangkap in May. “We also talked about a land dispute involving NU,” said Jokowi. (nvn)
