MINERAL COMMODITY - SINGAPORE. Nickel rose to its highest in more than 14 months on Friday after Vale's Indonesia operation suspended mining activities while aluminium began the New Year by crossing the $3,000 mark for the first time since 2022.

Three-month nickel on the London Metal Exchange was up 1.6% at $16,910 a metric ton in official open-outcry activity. The metal  used in stainless steel and batteries earlier rose as much as 1.8% to $16,950, the highest since October 2024, as funds covered short positions.
