MOTOR SALES - JAKARTA. Motorcycle sales in Indonesia continue to surge. Citing data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), sales of these two-wheeled vehicles were recorded at 534,379 units in August 2023, or an increase of 12.40% compared to sales in July 2023 which were 475,428 units.

Cumulatively, national motorcycle sales from January to August 2023 amounted to 4,211,737 units. This result jumped 36.17% year on year (YoY) compared to motorcycle sales in the same period the previous year which was 3,092,900 units.

National motorcycle sales are still dominated by the scooter category with a contribution of 89.64% to the total motorcycle sales until August 2023. Other types of motorcycles, namely sport motorcycles and underbone motorcycles, each contributed 5.19% and 5.16% to the total national motorcycle sales.

Meanwhile, in August 2023, Indonesian motorcycle exports were recorded at 55,247 units, or an increase of 3.37% compared to motorcycle exports in July 2023 which were 53,443 units.

Overall, national motorcycle exports reached 377,412 units from January to August 2023. However, this figure fell 23.51% YoY compared to motorcycle exports from January to August 2022 which were 493,448 units.

In the same vein, Indonesian motorcycle exports are dominated by scooters with a contribution of 51.84% to the total exports. Sport motorcycle exports contributed 24.85% while underbone motorcycles accounted for 23.31% of total exports.
