JAKARTA. High profile graft suspect Miranda Swaray Goeltom will stand trial for her involvement in the 2004 vote-buying case, which surrounded her election as a Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor.
"The trial will be held on July 24," Corruption Eradication Commission spokesman Johan Budi said on Monday.
Twenty-eight lawmakers have been convicted for accepting bribes in Miranda’s election, as well as businesswoman Nunun Nurbaeti, the wife of former National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen (ret) Adang Daradjatun.
Most of the convicted lawmakers have finished serving their prison terms.
Miranda has been accused of bribing the lawmakers with Rp 20.85 billion (US$2.25 million) in the form of hundreds of traveler’s checks – each worth Rp 50 million, to swing their vote for Miranda. (Sita W. Dewi/ The Jakarta Post)
