JAKARTA. The Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) said on Wednesday that it would try beef cartel cases involving 24 companies in Greater Jakarta in September this year.

KPPU head Syarkawi Rauf said that his team had been investigating the 24 beef suppliers since 2013 for their alleged role in inflating the meat prices by cutting the supply.

“Some are old players, but there are some new players,” Syarkawi told kompas.com, without mentioning names.

Most of the companies, he added, were based in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi.

If they are found guilty in KPPU’s internal court, the commission will revoke the companies’ business permits or order the companies to pay a penalty.
