JAKARTA. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should reveal the role Democratic Party lawmaker Angelina Sondakh is suspected of playing in a graft case surrounding the SEA Games athletes’ village in South Sumatra, a prominent activist says.
Lucky Djani from Transparency International Indonesia (TII) said on Sunday that former Democratic Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin’s conviction should force investigators to reveal Angelina’s alleged role in the case.
Angelina has been named a suspect in the case. The former beauty queen allegedly played an important role in rigging the tender for the project.
“The commission should immediately move forward to investigate Angelina’s alleged role in the case,” Lucky said, as quoted by kompas.com.
But she also said the anti-graft body should be given more time to examine Angelina’s alleged role, as well as those of other unidentified individuals.
“This is a high-profile case that involves many people that have close ties with the ruling circle,” she said.
KPK prosecutors accused Nazaruddin of channeling Rp 5 billion to the House’s Budget Committee through Angelina and I Wayan Koster of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Koster has been banned from leaving the country. (The Jakarta Post)
