JAKARTA. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is due to question former youth and sports minister Andi Alfian Mallarangeng on Friday, raising speculation that, on this occasion, he may be detained.
Andi’s lawyer, Harry Ponto, confirmed that his client had received a summons from the KPK for another round of questioning.
The KPK has repeatedly said that it would soon be detaining Andi.
The commission named Andi a suspect over the Hambalang graft case on Dec. 6, 2012.
The KPK has questioned Andi three times, the most recent being on Aug. 22, when he was subjected to five hours of questioning.
Harry said the KPK should indeed detain Andi, but added that it should also bring him to trial soon so that he could defend himself in court.
Andi has been charged with various irregularities regarding the administration and funding of the Hambalang sports complex, whose budget ballooned from Rp 300 million (US$31,000) under the previous minister to Rp 2.5 trillion during Andi’s tenure. (The Jakarta Post)
