JAKARTA. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is scheduled to question former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum, next week.
“Yes, Anas will be questioned on Tuesday,” said KPK deputy chairman Bambang Widjojanto in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Anas is set to be quizzed as a suspect in an alleged graft case related to the construction of the Hambalang sports complex in Bogor, West Java and other projects.
If Anas attends the questioning, this will be his first interrogation as a suspect although on July 31, 2013, the KPK summonsed the politician but he failed to show up.
Anas was named a suspect on Feb.22, 2012, and charged under Law No.31/1999 in reference to Law No.20/2001 on corruption eradication. If found guilty, Anas could face a sentence of life imprisonment and a fine of between Rp 200 million (US$16,447)and Rp1 billion.
Anas is alleged to have received bribes related to the planning and construction process of the Hambalang complex.
It has been alleged that Anas received a gratuity in the form of a Toyota Harrier car worth around Rp 800 million from state-owned construction company PT Adhi Karya to help the company win the tender process. Anas received the luxury car when he was a member of the House of Representatives in 2009. (ebf/The Jakarta Post)
