KPK confirms new e-ID case suspect

E-KTP - JAKARTA. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed it had issued a new sprindik (letter ordering the start of an investigation) related to the high-profile electronic identity (e-ID) graft case.

“It’s a new sprindik with the name of the suspect in it,” KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah told reporters on Tuesday.

However, he refused to disclose further details when asked about the viral image depicting a notification letter of the investigation (SPDP), where House of Representatives Speaker and Golkar Party chairman Setya Novanto was named a suspect in the e-ID case.

The letter depicted in the image bears the KPK letterhead and was signed by KPK director of investigation Brig. Gen. Aris Budiman on Nov. 3. The letter also implied that a new sprindik on Setya had been issued on Oct. 31.

Setya had previously been named a suspect for his alleged role in  corruption pertaining to e-ID procurement from 2011 to 2012, which has allegedly resulted in Rp 2.3 trillion (US$170 billion) in state losses.

Former Home Ministry high-ranking officials Irman and Sugiharto have been found guilty in the case. Businessmen Andi Agustinus aka Andi Narogong and Anang Sugiana Sudihardjo were also implicated, with the former currently on trial.

Setya’s lawyer, Fredrich Yunadi, brushed off the circulating image saying he had never received such a letter.

KPK questioned several former and current lawmakers as witnesses in the case on Tuesday, including Golkar's Chairuman Harahap, Agun Gunandjar Sudarsa, and Rudy Alfonso, as well as Teguh Juwarno from the National Mandate Party (PAN) and Miryam S. Haryani from the Hanura Party.
