Jasa Marga aims to boost e-toll users

JAKARTA. Toll-operator PT Jasa Marga Tbk (JSMR) targets to jack the number of e-toll road users by 30 percent of total toll road users by 2012.

“Currently, it’s only about 6% (of toll road users using e-toll road system),” Jasa Marga president director, Frans S. Sunito.

According to Frans, JSMR with Mandiri Bank is developing a system where road users can pass through toll gates saving time by using electronic payment.

The new system is hoped to help jams at toll gates.

“Next year, we will launch the transaction system so that cars do not have to stop and [transactions] are faster. With e-toll, the payment process will take two to three seconds,” said Frans.

Frans added that in the meantime, an e-toll system was operating at JORR (the Jakarta Outer Ring Road) that stretches from Veteran Gate in South Jakarta at the west end until Rorotan Gate in North Jakarta at the east end.

Along the section, the e-toll card can only be used at 28 of 83 gates.

The company targets to apply the e-toll system at all toll gates next year.
