Jakarta Fair offers new playgrounds

JAKARTA. Jakarta Fair organizer PT Jakarta Internasional Expo (JIExpo) has offered two new attractions – a snow playground and a horror house called “Penjara Setan” (Devil’s Prison) – to entertain visitors of this year’s event.

The snow playground and the prison allow young visitors of various ages to enjoy a unique entertainment experience, for an entrance fee of Rp 50,000 ( US$ 3.70 ) and Rp 35,000 per person for each attraction, respectively, during Saturdays and Sundays.

On Saturdays, only teens and children are allowed to enjoy the snow playground while their parents have to wait outside.

Iftah Fatima, a 9-year-old girl from Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, said she began trembling from the cold while playing in the snow playground because she did not wear a jacket. “I felt cold inside the playground. But I am happy though because I got to make an ice palace,” Iftah said.

Unlike Iftah, Dwi Winda Soeharto from Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, said he enjoyed Penjara Setan, which provided 3-D glasses for its visitors. “I enjoyed it very much. Wearing the 3-D glasses allows you to see scary things inside the facility. It was spooky. Everybody should try this,” Dwi said. He said visitors should brace themselves before entering the prison.

Held to celebrate the 489th anniversary of the city, the Jakarta Fair is scheduled to take place from June 10 to July 17 and has targeted to draw 5 million visitors.
