JAKARTA. The Jakarta administration is looking to attract more tourists from Taiwan by promoting the city as a prime golfing destination.
Jakarta Culture and Tourism Agency head Arie Budhiman said that the number of visitors from Taiwan was still far below visitors from other Asian countries such as Japan, China and South Korea, and that the Taiwan market still held significant potential for Jakarta tourism.
The agency recently held a tourism campaign in Taiwan from Sept. 7 to 11.
Arie elaborated that the agency would continue to make improvements in several sectors in order to prepare for the arrival of more Taiwanese tourists.
“One of our strategies to boost Taiwanese tourist numbers is to launch a tourism promotion campaign in Taiwan itself, which will involve 50 businesses, including golf resorts,” Arie said on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He added that Jakarta was known as a unique golfing destination, with more than 30 golf courses meeting international standards. Benefitting from this reputation, the agency aims to promote Jakarta as a global golfing destination.
According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), around 123,400 tourists from Taiwan visited Jakarta in the first seven months of 2014. (dyl/nvn)
